Hello, I'm Larry McBurney
WHERE I COME FROM
I was born and raised in central Iowa, so Iowa values are instilled in me. I grew up off Douglas Avenue and attended Des Moines North High School. My wife and I chose to establish ourselves in Urbandale because it felt like a small, welcoming community with big city amenities – and we were right. We’ve been welcomed in with open arms and caring hearts ever since.
A DISTINGUISHED MILITARY CAREER
I served 11 years in the Iowa Air National Guard as a Weapons Armament Technician and deployed overseas for 3 tours in support of our great nation during which I have obtained the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and many others. Afterwards, I successfully assisted in transitioning the 132d Fighter Wing from an F-16 mission to the support mission focused on intelligence and remotely piloted aircraft they continue to execute today.
DEDICATED CIVIL SERVANT
Luisita and I both enjoy being active in the community where we volunteer with organizations such as UCAN, Meals from the Heartland, Filipino American Society, and many more. The Urbandale 4th of July Committee nominated me to fulfill the role of Vice President in 2019 and is a role I continue to support today. I was appointed to the Urbandale Civil Rights Commission in 2019 where I served a 2-year term. In 2021, I was elected to serve on the Urbandale City Council where I continue to serve today. I am Urbandale’s representative on the Bravo Greater Des Moines board and have been a liaison for the Polk County Grow Solar program the past 2 years.
